Cribbs eyeing top-two finish after victory against Bitton

-

THE number of league fixtures in Division One and Division Two were reduced at the weekend due to cup and plate games. Premier games were not affected as they will be competing in a separate cup competition.

Rhys Ackerman, Saman Ahmadi, Buster Reed were all one target for Cribbs Youth in their Premier Division game against Bitton. This win keeps them fourth in the table, and, with games in hand, they are very much in contention for a top-two finish.

Lawrence Weston let slip the opportunity to join Bristol Central as joint leaders of the division when they could only manage single goal from Jake Morgan in a 1-1 home draw against Olveston.

In the only Division One game played, Downend Eagles had a 4-1 win over Rockleaze Rangers. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into half-time with goals from George Hucker and Samuel Harper. After the interval, Joe Moss and Harper struck to make it 4-0 before, with time running out, Noah Higton pulled a goal back for Rockleaze.

In the two games played in Division Two, both home teams were victorious with four goals. Mangotsfield overcame Cribbs Colts 4-2 and Whitchurch Sports won 4-1 against Coalpit Heath.

In Division Three, Fry Colts recorded their first win of the season when they overcame Portishead Sparks 2-1. Fry’s took the lead after 30 minutes and carried this lead into the interval. Midway through the second half, Fry’s doubled their lead. With 10 minutes left, Caleb James scored for Portishead.

Hambrook had a 3-1 win over fellow strugglers AEK Boco, who opened the scoring after 30 minutes.

Callum Harris scored an equaliser seven minutes later. Then, after 30 minutes of the second period, Tom Andrews gave Hambrook the lead, and Reece Anderson added a third 10 minutes later.

In the U18 League Cup, five games were played with all the winners moving forward to the quarterfinals. Backwell Athletic won 5-1 against Portishead Colts, thanks to goals from Joe Wild (4) and Josef Jeffery. They meet Coalpit Heath Dons in the last eight after they beat Larkhall Athletic 3-1.

In the battle between Division Three leaders Port of Bristol and Division One leaders Bath City, the City came away with a 6-2 win, having been 3-1 up at half-time. Treydon Merrett scored both Ports’ goals, one in each half.

Whitchurch Juniors came away winners after a penalty shootout against Stoke Lane Lions. Whitchurch scored twice in the first six minutes, one each for Omar Jeng and Owen Harper. These goals proved to be the only goals they managed to score throughout the 90 minutes of play with the Lions scoring their two goals in the second half, both by Riley Morris. Whitchurch won the penalty shootout 3-2.

Third division Warmley Rangers lost 2-1 to Division One side Keynsham Town. Keynsham took an 11th-minute lead. Rangers equalised some 30 minutes later from a Harvey Spiers penalty, but Town retook the lead early in the second half.
