Long weekend parking bill at airport costs more than flight to Barcelona

-

IT costs more to park your car at Bristol Airport for a long weekend in June than it does for a return flight from Bristol to Barcelona, it has been revealed.

Parking costs have recently surged meaning holidaymakers have to fork out a whopping £81 to park at the short-stay car park for three days.

According to the airport’s website, it costs £45 to park in the Silver Zone for 24 hours. That increases to £64 for two days, £81 for three days, £100 for four days, £123 for five days, and £10 each day thereafter.

A return flight from Bristol to Barcelona with easyJet in June costs approximately £51.98, excluding baggage and any additional costs. It means holidaymakers are paying around £30 more for their parking than their actual flight if they plan on visiting for three days.

Bristol, along with Manchester, is the most expensive short-stay car park in the UK outside of London, according to Evans Halshaw.

A spokesperson for the car company said: “Bristol also has the largest price hike for both long- and short-stay parking, increasing its August prices by 42 per cent and 40 per cent respectively compared to June.”

Heathrow, meanwhile, increases its short-stay car parking by around 11 per cent at peak times and Stanstead 19 per cent.

Bristol Airport says parking at its site “is the same as all other UK airports”.

A spokesperson said: “Car parking at Bristol Airport is the same as all other UK airports, it works on a supply and demand basis.

“We offer a range of convenient car parking products, close to the terminal building across a range of price points suitable for all travellers.

“Passengers can also take advantage of discounts by signing up to the airport Rewards program.”
