TECH THAT THE LATEST IN THE DIGITAL WORLD

E Ink’s new colours

E Ink has shown off its latest stab at a colour e-ink screen.

The Gallery 3 system is one of two colour e-ink technologies E Ink makes – the other is Kaleido, which is used in most commercial colour e-ink devices.

Gallery 3 makes huge strides in the areas in which Kaleido is weak.

It can produce a much larger number of colours, and requires no back-light – all the time offering an impressive resolution of 300dpi.

Where Gallery 3 excels is in speed. Colour pages refresh in 1.5 seconds. That compares to 10 seconds in the previous version.

If you set the device to prioritise speed over quality, that drops to just 350 milliseconds. That’s fast enough to make big manufacturers like Amazon take notice.

Sennheiser’s refined sound

Sennheiser is a big name in audio – they make great headphones, among other things, and at reasonable prices.

Its latest is the third iteration of the Momentum True Wireless earbuds, pictured. Already renowned for top audio quality, the new version of the Momentum offers a new design, better active noise cancelling, and an extra mic for better call quality.

Also new is wireless charging for the case. They’ll cost around £270. Sennheiser’s other new earbuds are the Sport True Wireless, which offer both open and closed ear-tips – open tips make them more comfortable for working out.

iMovie’s making it easy

Apple has released a new version of its popular video editor app iMovie, with a couple of new features to help anyone make something decent.

The original timeline editing mode remains intact, but two other modes are added. There’s Storyboard mode, which asks you to assemble shots based on a predefined storyboard – there are many templates to choose from. All you have to do is add footage.

Magic Movie mode lets you select the clips and theme, and iMovie will do the rest. iMovie 3 is available for iPhone, iPad and Mac as a free download.

Meanwhile, Apple has made changes to the firmware for its £99 MagSafe battery pack for iPhone. The upgrade means it’ll charge at 7.5W, faster than the 5W it manages without the update.
