Bristol & District Baryah’s an all-round star against Hallen

GURSEWAK Baryah produced a memorable all-round performanc­e for Bristol West Indian Phoenix 3rds, following up a century with a burst of 4-0 off only 10 balls to help seal a 135-win in Division 12 of the Bristol & District League away to Hallen.

Baryah, who was out for exactly 100, and captain Barry Gayle (67) dominated the visitors’ challenge of 291-6, with Rich Shean the pick of the attack with a return of 3-22.

Baryah then ran through the Hallen tail to wrap up the points after Herman Vassell had earlier taken 3-31 from eight overs.

There were three outstandin­g individual performanc­es as Bristol Pakistanis 2nds eased past Patchway by 133 runs in Division Six.

Mohammad Harris cracked 186 (21 fours, 12 sixes) and opener

Amjad Mehmood was unbeaten on 139 (24 fours, one six) in a superb total of 372-2 after losing the toss. Patchway were then restricted to 239-9 as Muhammad Shakil Ahmed took 5-57 to foil Mudit Sharma (53) and Chris Hull (49).

The best bowling performanc­e of the day came in the Senior Division where Dan Hill’s burst of 6-40 from eight overs helped Timsbury nail down a 68-run home success against newcomers Hanham.

Bristol West Indian Phoenix, bidding to bounce straight back to WEPL after relegation last year, opened with a six-wicket wiagainst promoted Winterbour­ne 2s, with Nicky Clark (76) and Raj Chudasama (52) taking centre stage.

Stapleton, who also dropped down last summer, were fivewicket victors at Claverham. Opener Ghulam Shabbir topscored on 56, while debutant

Adarsh Appannagar­i (4-23) spurred Frenchay to an 80-run success at Pak Bristolian­s.

Opener Saqib Imran (106) put Bristol Pakistanis on course for a 131-run home hammering of Bath 3rds in Division One, where Ben Stitfall finished on the losing side despite a haul of 5-26 from eight overs for Lodway, who were beaten by 57 runs at Hampset.

In Division Two, an opening stand of 207 between captain Matt Wood (108 not out) and Richard Boroughs (102) helped set up a 102-run success for Bishopston 2nds against BWIP 2nds.

Amul Desai made a big impact with ball and then bat for St Mary Redcliffe, who romped in by nine wickets away to Congresbur­y 2nds in Division Four, taking 5-42 from eight and following up with an unbeaten 79 from 62. Veteran Steve Frankcom (110 not out) and Simon

Hedges (117) shared a secondwick­et partnershi­p of 218 for Pucklechur­ch 2nds, who trumped Knowle 4ths by 122 runs in Division 13.

Lahiru Perera plundered 138 off 108 balls (ten fours, nine sixes) for Bristol Sri Lankans, who dispatched Brislingto­n 3rds by 132 runs in Division Five.

Skipper Josh Tiley was in big-hitting form for Frenchay 3rds, walloping 154 off 105 (21 fours, four sixes) in a 186-run home win against Winford Old Caths in Division Ten.

Opener Olly Ralph’s unbeaten 109 proved to be in vain for Downend 3rds, who succumbed by six wickets at Lodway 2nds in Division Nine, while Salu Kanakalil Thomas finished with 5-24 in Bristol New Eleven’s ten-wicket home hammering of Winterbour­ne 4ths in Division Ten.
