Wick plan to appeal decision not to give them promotion

WICK have vowed to appeal against the decision not to place them in a step 6 league next season.

Wick were expecting to be put in either the Toolstation Western League or Hellenic League after pipping Shirehampton to the Gloucestershire County League title.

However, when the step 6 leagues were announced at the end of last week, it was Shirehampton, not Wick, who have been placed in the Toolstation League First Division.

Wick’s promotion was always subject to ground improvements being carried out at Oldbury Lane, and the club have issued a statement on their Twitter account stating that they are still expecting these to be made ahead of next season.

The statement read: “Wick FC are within days of gaining full planning permission for the required step 5&6 ground improvements and as such it is determined to gain promotion to step 6 and will if necessary appeal any decision not to promote us.”

Shirehampton will be joined in the Toolstation First Division by Nailsea & Tickenham, the Somerset County League champions, as well as Brislington and Hallen.

Brislington have relegated themselves from the Premier Division due to the excessive travelling now involved in that league, following the arrival of four teams from Cornwall for the 2021-22 season. Hallen are back in the Toolstation League following one miserable season in the Hellenic, during which they finished bottom of the Premier Division.

The Toolstation Premier Division next season will contain six Cornish clubs, with Falmouth Town and Torpoint arriving to replace promoted Devon sides Tavistock and Exmouth Town. Brislington’s selfrelegation has reprieved Ashton & Backwell from the drop, after the Stags finished second bottom.

Mangotsfield United, who finished second bottom in Southern League Division One South, have been placed in the Hellenic League Premier.
