Bristol & District Big-hitting Malik leads Pakistanis to emphatic victory

AZEEM Malik walloped an unbeaten 145, off only 104 balls, to put Bristol Pakistanis on track for an 87-run triumph away to Knowle 2nds in Division One of the Martin Berrill Sports Bristol & District League.

Coming in at four, Malik hit 20 fours and four sixes, and received useful support from Shahwaiz Hassan (50) as their side reached 290-6 after losing the toss. Chris Fenwick finished with 3-48.

Urfan Malik then gave the visitors the perfect start with three early strikes and eventually finished with 5-25 from seven overs, as Knowle ended well short. Joe Milkins top-scored on 43.

Brothers Jack and Sam Baber took central roles in a five-wicket Senior Division win for Bristol West Indian Phoenix against Stapleton.

This clash between the two sides relegated last year from WEPL saw Stapleton restricted to 181-9 after losing the toss. Jack Baber took three early wickets to finish with 3-15 from nine overs.

Sam Baber followed up with 79 at the top order in a comfortabl­e win for the early pacesetter­s, captain Cole Pierre weighing in with 56.

Also two from two are Frenchay following a 17-run trumping of Hanham. Eddie Williams and Tim Robinson captured three wickets apiece.

Keynsham 2nds followed up their win last weekend by edging Pak Bristolian­s by three wickets. Cameron Emmott took 5-33.

Timsbury and Coalpit Heath, meanwhile, tied a thriller at the Rec, Sam Hoddinott scoring two off the final ball of the match before being run out attempting the winning run for the home side.

Rob Bailey, consistent­ly one of the heaviest run scorers in the league in recent years, cracked an unbeaten 131 (17 fours, five sixes) as Stanton Drew chased down a target of 202 away to Taveners in Division Seven for the loss of only one wicket. Opener George Amos top-scored for the home side with an unbeaten 107.

Dan Lockwood’s 108 and 70 from skipper Bilal Raja put Bristol United Banks in a strong position at home to Bitton 2nds who were rumbled for only 27 and a 195-run setback. Haroon Naseer finished with 3-2 from six overs.

In Division Eight, Gagan Singh’s 131 not out off 101 (12 fours, eight sixes) helped Bristol New Eleven chase down a target of 255 away to

Bedminster 4ths, for whom Oscar Sullivan was unbeaten on 115 off 102. Ben Boardman’s 104 set up a 135-run success for Chipping Sodbury 3rds at Winterbour­ne 4ths.

Captain Josh Tiley and opener Joe Redgers shared a secondwick­et stand of 213 for Frenchay 3rds who held off Cleeve 2nds by 68 runs in Division Ten.

Tiley was unbeaten on 135 off 103 (20 fours, one six) and Redgers’ 100 off 110 included 12 fours.

In Division 15, Matt Webb plundered an unbeaten 135 off 94 (six fours, ten sixes) for Chipping Sodbury 4ths who held off Bristol Sri Lankans 2nds by 21 runs.
