Rugby Morahan reportedly set to leave Bristol
LUKE Morahan is set to leave Bristol Bears at the end of the season.
The three-cap former Wallabies international is likely to return to Australia, according to the The Daily Telegraph, despite Wasps being interested in bringing the 32-year-old wing to the Coventry Building Society.
Former Australian Sevens international Morahan joined Bristol ahead of the 2017-18 season and his searing pace and quality soon shone through as he finished the Championship’s top try-scorer, helping the club earn an immediate return to the Gallagher Premiership. Despite the step up in the quality of the defences in the Premiership, Morahan quickly established himself as one of the top wingers in the league, scoring 41 tries in 78 league appearances.
Morahan, pictured, also played in every game of Bristol’s 2019-20 European Challenge Cup campaign, which ended with the club beating Toulon in the final to win their first major trophy in 37 years.
His versatility has also been incredibly valuable to Bears director of rugby Pat Lam with the Australian making regular appearances at full-back as well as on the wing.
When he is not tearing it up on the rugby pitch, Morahan can be found at his Redland coffee shop
Burra, a joint venture with teammate Jake Heenan and the club’s head of operations Tom Tainton.
However, the 2021-22 season has been a challenging one for Morahan and the team, with muscle injuries disrupting his campaign. He has played just eight league games, with a further four runouts in the Heineken Champions Cup.
Should Morahan depart, he will be the second international wing out the Ashton Gate door this summer, with Samoan Alapati Leiua already confirmed as moving to RC
Vannes.
