Toolstatio­n/Hellenic Cribbs take another step towards title triumph

CRIBBS ground out another crucial three points in their quest to win the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Richard Luffman’s table-toppers won 3-1 against Royal Wootton Bassett at The Lawns, where all the goals came in the first half.

David Duru’s third-minute strike gave Cribbs a great start, but Scott Chilcott equalised soon after. Aysa Corrick restored Cribbs’advantage with a 26th-minute strike, and Sonny Harnett-Balkwill added the third shortly before half-time.

Cribbs remain two points ahead of title rivals Malvern, with a game in hand.

Mangotsfie­ld United, fresh from celebratin­g success in the Floodlit Cup final, were sunk 3-0 at home by FA Vase semi-finalists Corsham Town, whose goals came from Neikell Plummer, Matt Swan and Rob Hobbs.

Roman Glass St George made it five wins in a row after a Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist strike secured a 1-0 home win against relegation battlers Bradford Town.

Chipping Sodbury Town, another side attempting to avoid the drop, lost 4-2 at home to Wantage Town, after it had been 1-1 at the break.

Jack Sheppard-Cozens was on target for Thornbury Town in a 1-1 draw at home to Shrivenham.

Postponeme­nts meant only two games involving local teams went ahead in the Toolstatio­n League Premier Division.

Second-bottom Keynsham Town went down 2-0. at thirdplace­d Bridgwater United. A diving header from defender Jacob Spence gave Bridgy a 29th-minute lead, and former Nailsea & Tickenham striker Jack Thorne added the second just after half-time.

A fine strike from Callum Eastwood gave Clevedon Town the lead at Helston Athletic, but the Cornish club hit back to win 3-1 vis two goals from Rubin Wilson and one from Rikki Sheppard.

In the First Division, Brislingto­n stayed on course for the title with a 3-0 success at closest challenger­s Wells City. A hat-trick from Joe McLennan fired Brislingto­n to a 22nd successive victory in all competitio­ns and put them eight points clear at the top.

Third-placed Nailsea & Tickenham won 5-1 at home to Bristol Telephones. Alfie Hemmings struck twice on his debut, with Paddy Royal, Luke Osgood and Callum Dunn also on target for the home side. Sam Thomas scored for Phones.

Harrison Kyte gave Oldland Abbotonian­s, in fourth, a 25thminute lead at Hallen, but the hosts took a point following a 72ndminute equaliser from Elliot Gardner.

Longwell Green Sports overcame struggling Bishops Lydeard 5-3 on the Shellards Road 3G.

Rob Belcher hit a hat-trick, and the Green tally was made up through a Matt Brown strike and an own goal.

Craig Wilson gave Bishop Sutton an early lead at Tytheringt­on Rocks, but it finished 1-1 after a leveller from Mike Johnson for Rocks.

Almondsbur­y remain rooted to the foot of the table after a 3-1 defeat at Gillingham, after it had been goalless at the break.
