This will only lead to many more items being dumped illegally

-

TTHERE is a charge for waste collection as part of our council tax, and this is a very useful service that we can’t do without.

We could help by recycling things properly, but we don’t. It’s just as easy to put an item in the correct bin for recycling as it is to put it in the wrong bin for landfill.

I understand that not all people have gardens and do not need a green bin, so an extra charge for this seems logical.

I see that for those that do pay, the £32 annual charge has been increased to £50, i.e £18 more, from April 1.

It is expected that of the 28,000 that do currently pay, 3,000 will not pay for this service in future. What will they do with their green waste then?

If you need a replacement black or green bin, perhaps because of no fault of your own, you might be charged £28 for it.

Just so the city council can do you the favour of collecting your waste, a service that is included in your council tax.

Not satisfied with this it has also been decided that the charge to collect an old sofa, from your house, will be £25 – and £50 for a three-piece suite.

There will also be individual charges for certain items taken to the recycling centres by responsible people to be disposed of properly, including £5 for a Christmas tree. I would have thought that it should be obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense that this will lead to many more items being dumped illegally in our beautiful countryside.

The already high cost of dealing with this fly tipping will increase, and exceed the sum gained by the harsh and greedy shortsighted measures above, imposed on people already overtaxed and struggling with energy bills, etc. P Collins Bristol
