City legends help fundraiser kick off walk

-

TOTTENHAM Hotspur legend Steve Perryman joined some former Bristol City stars yesterday to launch a charity fundraising walk.

5K for AD aims to raise awareness of aortic dissection, a medical condition which can kill without warning, and funds for the The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust.

In the UK and Ireland, more than 2,000 people a year lose their lives to aortic dissection, which is caused by a partial tear in the wall of the aorta – a major artery in the body.

Organised by charity fundraiser Paul Hobbs, the 5k walk around Ashton Gate stadium, home of Bristol City and the Bristol Bears, will take place on July 25.

Paul will be joined by celebrity walkers including legendary broadcaster “Whispering” Bob Harris and Steve Perryman, who both narrowly survived the condition, alongside 1991 FA Cup final referee Roger Milford and special guests from Bristol City and Bristol Bears

The event is free for spectators and there will be ample opportunities to cheer on the walkers, access the bar area and meet the special guests on the day.

Entertainment will be provided by Micky John Bull.

Doors open at 12.30pm but you will need to pre-book your ticket to attend.

Yesterday at Ashton Gate, Steve Perryman and organiser Paul Hobbs were joined by ex-City stars Trevor Tainton, Gerry Sweeney, Dave Rodgers, Geoff Merrick, and Paul Cheesley to launch the event.

In 2021 fundraiser Mr Hobbs walked the length of a marathon along the Grand Pier exactly two years after undergoing significant heart surgery.

He has participated in many charity fundraisers since, including a sponsored challenge that raised money for the British Heart Foundation.
