CLIFTON Robinsons made their second away trip to the Paddington Recreational Ground this season to play Hampstead and Westminster.

The visitors, playing well as a team, started the first quarter in promising fashion with good build up play and threatening attacks. They created a few chances to take the lead by winning penalty corners through SJ Thorburn and Phoebe Richards. However, despite their best efforts, Clifton Robinsons were unable to convert these chances into goals.

Arguably against the run of play, some good attacking play from Hampstead and Westminster, and a couple of mistakes from Clifton in the D, led to the home side opening the scoring. They increased their lead after 17 minutes following a well-worked short corner.

Clifton Robinsons continued to compete well, creating opportunities at goal. A sharp attack by Livvy Hoskins led to a great shot by Amy Burton, which hit the post.

At the start of the second half, Clifton Robinsons came out fighting, and coupled with a good defensive performance by Emily Drysdale, led to a successful attack winning the visitors a corner. A powerful delivery by Caitlin Whitman led to a well-placed deflection by Richards to Eloise Laity, who slotted the ball into the goal.

The goal stirred the home side into action and they started to get on top. They won a short corner, from which they scored to lead by two goals again.

Despite Clifton Robinsons’ best efforts, Hampstead and Westminster were solid in defence and continued to take their opportunities scoring a further two goals, one an outfield goal on 51 minutes and the other a well-worked corner with a minute left.
