Academia and Wick march on in tight tussle for the title

BRISTOL Premier Sunday League Senior Division title rivals Bristol Academia and Wick both enjoyed 5-0 wins last weekend.

Conor Hartley (2), Adom Henry, Jordan Mignott and Marcus Topp scored for Academia in a 5-0 success away to Hambrook Sunday.

Wick had two goals from Owen Humphries and one apiece from Luke Bryan, Jayden Nielsen and Max Williams in a 5-0 home win against Heritage United, which kept them three points behind Academia.

A hat-trick from Jack Hooper led third-placed Shire Green Rovers to an 8-2 home win against Signal Generals.

In the President’s Cup second round, Rockleaze Rangers had a hat-trick from Alex Welford in a 6-2 home win against Southmead CS Athletic.

Yate Rangers progressed to the next round with a 6-5 home win against Breakaways, for whom Joe Fear and Darryl Towler both struck twice.

Houselande­r are also into the third round after beating Fishponds Town Wizards 5-0 at Dundridge Rec.

In Division One, Jay Cooper completed a hat-trick and Danny Dodimead scored twice as secondplac­ed Supreme Cuts won 7-1 at Kingswood Athletic.

In Division Two, a goal from Curtis Hayward gave leaders Hanham Athletic a 1-0 win at Keynsham Rangers.

Michael Bojski’s hat-trick gave Little Stoke Old Boys a 3-2 home success against Shadwell Rovers, while AJN battled out a 1-1 draw with De Veys 1923.

Sporting United hold a threepoint lead at the top of Division Three after winning both games of a double header against The Argonauts. Dan Lock’s goal secured a 1-0 win in one of the games, and he completed a hat-trick as Sporting won the other match 5-0. George Matthews and Liam Bliss scored the other goals.

Second-placed Bristol Argyle won 4-1 at home to DRG Frenchay.

Bristol Blues had doubles from Iwan Jones and Aaron Edwards in a 6-5 home win against Rising Sun, for whom Brandon Lewis and Adam Rees both scored twice. Hambrook United enjoyed a 6-1 victory against Longreach Athletic Reserves at Patchway Community College.
