400 steel jobs axed

BRITISH STEEL is planning to cut 400 jobs in countries including the UK under moves to secure a “sustainable future”, the company has said.

Managerial, professional and administrative roles will be affected, but no closures are being considered.

British Steel employs some 4,000 workers in the UK.

Unions called the announcement a “body blow” to workers.
