Chance for Crofters to take stock of campaign

-

BURTON have a break this weekend before a key run of fixtures in the Midlands Premier.

After promotion from Midlands One West last season, they have won only one game so far this season and are third from bottom in the table.

The team below them, Syston, are the Crofters’ next opponents when the Midlands Premier returns to action on Saturday, October 20.

That away game is followed by another fixture on the road as they make the short trip to face Derby at Haslams Lane on Friday, October 26, before a home game against current bottom club Doncaster Phoenix on November 3.

At training on Tuesday, Burton head coach Ricky Whitehall sat down with the squad to watch a video of the previous game, a 22-17 home defeat by Broadstreet, and discuss areas of the Crofters game which need to be improved.

Team manager Jono Edwards said: “This was by no means a crisis meeting and everything which was discussed was very positive.

“The players highlighted areas where other teams have hurt us and ways in which we could implement them into our game plan.

“The key message was that the only people who are going to the help influence a successful season were the people in the Burton head coach Ricky Whitehall.

room and there needs to be a collective responsibility amongst the players. Being more focused at training was a key takeaway and being more physical in games another.

“None of the players receive any financial reward and the coaching team have no governance as to whether the players attend training or even play for the club, so it was agreed that everyone needs to buy into the collective goal as, otherwise, people are wasting other people’s valuable time.”
