A SCHOOLGIRL has been so inspired by her head teacher that she has written a moving letter, saying how she looks up to her so much.

Jessica Henrick, 13, is a year nine student at Pingle Academy in Swadlincote and penned the letter (reproduced below) about her headteacher, Viv Sharples.

Jessica says Mrs Sharples has done so much for the school and needs to be thanked for all her hard work.

The letter was written as part of Jessica’s religion homework, when pupils were tasked with writing about their idols and people who inspired them.

In it she wrote: “She makes sure everyone feels like they belong and there is help for people that need it. Thanks to her, we have many opportunities during school and support for every student.”

Jessica’s mum, Emma, 34, of Blueberry Way, Woodville, came across the letter as her daughter had borrowed her laptop to write it on.

She said: “I stumbled across the letter and it was just so sweet to read. Jessica is always talking about what a good job Mrs Sharples has done at the school.

“They have been learning about Martin Luther King and, for their homework they had to write about good people. Jessica did hers on Mrs Sharples.

“I’m so proud of her choosing her head teacher. She is so inspired by her and I am so happy Mrs Sharples is having such a positive impact on Jessica.”

The school, in Coronation Street, has more than 1,000 students as well as a sixth form and a learning support base, which caters for children with additional educational needs.

It even has a “support dog”, Winston, who has also been introduced at the academy, and dozens of pupils have been helped by the pooch – who is available for walks around the school site and counselling sessions with Mark Hurst, Winston’s handler and head of student and pupil services,

The support every youngster gets at the school is something else that Jessica wrote about in her letter, praising staff for their hard work.

Jessica also wrote of her principal: “I think Mrs Sharples is a good person because of everything she has done for the school.

She added: “Mrs Sharples makes the school like a family and helps us to be the best we can be.

“This is why I believe with all my heart, Mrs Sharples is a good person.” Jessica has aspirations to work in the education system, much like her mum – who works as a support teacher – and her headteacher.

Emma said: “Jessica has big plans in life. She wants to change the world and make the world a better place for everybody.

“She wants everything to be fair and just because some people were born with issues that might make school hard for them, she doesn’t want that to affect their opportunities in life.

“She’s very empathetic and is always thinking about others.

Mrs Sharples, who has been at the school for 16 years said: “The comments Jessica made were such a lovely thing to read. This is my dream job and I enjoy every second of every day at Pingle.

“The students are absolutely amazing and the most important thing for me is that they are happy and feel they belong.

“I was showing round a prospective parent last week and she asked a Year 7 class who is happy at Pingle? All the hands shot up! That made me realise what a great job all the staff do.

“We all care very much about the students and want to support them to achieve highly and be the best that they can be.”
