Ben: I’d like to get used to this!

FOX IS NOT SURE HOW TO CELEBRATE GOALS – YET

BEN Fox wants to keep adding his name to the scoresheet for Burton Albion – so he can start to get used to celebrating his goals.

The Brewers academy graduate picked an opportune moment to grab his first in a League game, with his composed 91st-minute finish securing Albion a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers.

While Albion had come closest to breaking the deadlock beforehand, the cagey, niggly affair looked destined to end goalless until substitute Fox popped up with a couple of brilliant touches in the opposition box to convert a lowe centre from Lucas Akins.

It sparked jubilant scenes among the Brewers players and fans at the Pirelli Stadium, ending a four-game winless run in all competitions.

And as for Fox himself, did he know how to celebrate such an important goal and a landmark moment in his own fledgling career?

“Not at all, not at all!” said the 20-year-old.

“Maybe I should score some more goals so I can get used to celebrating.

“I haven’t really got a clue when it comes to it.

“But as long as it goes in the back of the net, you just express yourself afterwards.

“Every kind of emotion comes at you.

“I was thankful it went in, because it was a bit of a scrappy finish.

“I’m delighted for the team, because I think we deserved it.

“We deserved a good result and, hopefully, we can get some more going forward.”

Into his third season as a professional, Fox is targeting the 2018-19 campaign as the one in which he makes a telling mark at Burton Albion.

Despite having lost his early-season starting spot at the base of midfield to Stephen Quinn, the former Gateshead and Solihull Moors loanee has featured in nine League games so far this term for the Brewers, including all four of their wins at the Pirelli Stadium.

And the Burton-born midfielder is relishing the chance to perform on home soil.

“I don’t think it brings pressure, it kind of gives you an extra motivation because they are people that you know and people that you care about.

“My mum, dad and sister were here today and I know my grandad was listening.

“It almost brings an excitement when you get on the pitch. You want to go and express yourself and make things happen.

“Luckily, I was there today to make sure it did.”
