National Trust slams plans

horrible. It was bad enough when they were working on Derby Station, with the work trains thundering past at 10 at night every 15 minutes. There’s no telling how bad this will be with all the pollution and dust directly opposite us.

“We’re just a number to them, we’re not human. The letters aren’t even addressed to us personally.”

An HS2 spokeswoman said: “We are committed to supporting individuals who are impacted by our proposals and will be contacting newly impacted homeowners to explain what this means for them, and the options available to them.”

Brent Poland, the Stop HS2 Erewash spokesman, said: “We are shocked by the extent of the damage to our local economy, infrastructure, housing and habitat. We believe that enough is enough and that HS2 can no longer use ‘an end justifies the means’ approach to our community.” THE National Trust has lashed out at the scheme, claiming that it is “wholly unacceptable”.

It said new details appeared to show “significantly worsened construction and highway impacts” at Hardwick in Derbyshire, where the route runs for 1.5 miles through the middle of the estate.

Denise Edwards, general manager at Hardwick, said: “The current HS2 proposals ... would impose considerable harm on the historic landscape, local environment, our business and the communities around Hardwick.”
