WILL Miller showed Burton Albion what they have been missing in his first League start for nine months, according to Nigel Clough.

Miller suffered a serious knee injury in the Brewers’ Championship defeat to Queens Park Rangers in January and, after a couple of recent outings in the Checkatrade Trophy, he returned to a starting 11 in League One for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward was a bright spark down the left flank, firing a second-half effort against the post before Ben Fox popped up with the late winner.

Miller was included in the team after Marvin Sordell sustained a hip problem in training on Friday - and Clough believes he showed what he can bring to the team again.

“It was only with Marvin pulling up injured in training that he got his start.

“We’re delighted for him. I think he showed what we’ve been missing, he just gives us that little spark of something.

“He played 90 minutes on Tuesday, so he’s still building up.

“As nice as it is for Ben, it would’ve been nice if that was the second one and Will’s had gone in for 1-0.

Liam Boyce is away on international duty with Northern Ireland, David Templeton is yet to recover from a shoulder problem and Sordell pulled out.

For Clough, the lastgasp win was proof that, whoever is on the pitch, his side need to “keep doing the right things”. “Marvin got injured in the warm-up at training on Friday,” he added. “He pulled out very early in the

Nigel Clough on Will Miller warm-up, felt something in his thigh or hip.

“We hope it’s not too serious and he’ll be available again within a week.

“There was no Boyce, no Templeton, no Sordell, you lose Scott Fraser after 55 minutes.

“So you definitely need that somebody to come up with something.
