A FORMER brewery building in Burton has been subject to “significant interest” since being put on the market, it has emerged

The old Molson Coors brewery building in Station Street has been earmarked for a “residential-led mixed-use development” and is being marketed by Colliers International.

It is a 5.77-acre site and sits opposite the currently operating Molson Coors brewery, where Carling lager is produced.

The two used to be connected by an overhead bridge, which was demolished in January 2019.

It was put up for sale in April and has so far proved popular, according to the agency. Senior surveyor at Colliers International Peter Vass said: “Since we launched our marketing of the site in April we have received significant interest in this exciting urban regeneration opportunity.

“In line with announcements made by the UK Government, Public Health England and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in May regarding commercial property inspections, we have conducted a number of viewings of the site with interested parties, taking prudent safety precautions, including observing social distancing measures and ensuring that appropriate PPE is worn.”

The red brick complex was created in 1864 and is made up of two-to-four storey buildings.

It has not been used for brewing since December 2017 and was decommissioned the following year. Two of the buildings are Grade II listed, meaning they are of architectural or historic interest. A giant copper kettle used in the brewing process is still housed on the site, as well as the brewery’s famous keg fountain.

A brewery spokesman previously said that it was “important” to the firm that the buildings would be used in a way to add “real value” to Burton.

A description of the site details that Burton Railway Station is a five-minute walk away, offering connections to nearby cities including Derby, Nottingham and Birmingham.

We have conducted a number of viewings of the site with interested parties.
