Man dies after collision with lorry on A50

A YOUNG man died after falling from a bridge over the A50.

Emergency services attended the A50 westbound near Uttoxeter at 4.43am yesterday after reports of a collision involving a man and a HGV.

A man in his 30s was confirmed dead at the scene. His family are being offered support from specially trained officers at this difficult time, said a police spokesman.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called by police at 4.43am to reports of a collision involving a lorry and pedestrian on the A50 in Uttoxeter. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended.

“Unfortunately it became clear nothing could be done to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The road was closed for several hours as officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit began their investigation. Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to ring the police.
