Update on the response of 999 services to pandemic
AN update on how the police and fire service have been responding to the coronavirus pandemic will be one of the topics discussed at the next meeting of the Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Panel.
The meeting will be broadcast live online from 2pm on Monday, with the public able to watch updates from Staffordshire commissioner Matthew
Ellis about the performance of the police and fire and rescue service.
As a result of the pandemic, the panel will meet virtually instead of face to face, but the focus on openness and transparency will remain the same. Topics to be covered at the meeting will include:
■■ An update on how both services have responded to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic;
■■ An update on the delivery of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue’s Corporate Safety Plan;
■■ Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services’ report on the Peel Inspection of Staffordshire Police;
■■ Questions for the commissioner from the public and the panel.
Mr Ellis said: “This is about being open, honest and transparent, so our communities can have confidence in the service delivered by police and fire and rescue here.
“The pandemic has meant we’re having to do things differently, but it’s more important than ever that people have the opportunity to ask questions and keep up to date on key issues.
“The panel plays an important role in scrutinising decisions I make, and supporting the development of plans for both services, to ensure they provide the best outcomes for the people of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-trent.”
Panel members include representatives from the principal local authorities in the county, together with two independent members. The meeting will be live streamed at http://moderngov. staffordshire.gov.uk/ ielistdocuments. aspx?cid=1150&mid=11298&ver=4
