A RESTAURANT famous for its buffet counter will reopen later this month – with a new “contactless buffet” option for customers.

Wing Wah Chinese restaurant in New Street, Burton, has announced it will reopen on Thursday, July 30, with safety measures in place.

The contactless buffet, by which diners will be able to order their food and drinks using a special app, is part of changes to meet Government guidelines on safety.

Wing Wah boss Dorian Chan said: “We wouldn’t open the restaurant if we didn’t think it was going to be safe.

“We’re following all the guidelines and environmental health say we can go ahead.

“Officials are happy with our plan and we’re excited to reopen.”

Mrs Chan said the team had “gone above and beyond” to get an app set up for the contactless buffet.

The restaurant will also be offering a “buffet to home” service for people to enjoy the restaurant’s food from the comfort of their own home.

Mrs Chan said: “There are lots of people still worried about going out to dine, so we have them covered as well.

“There’ll be a more limited menu when we reopen, but we still have all the favourites.”

It is not clear whether the service will involve delivery or collection, but the Burton Mail has asked Wing Wah and is waiting on the firm to clarify this point.

As part of the changes there will also be a lower capacity at the restaurant, while staff will clear the buffet counter every 30 minutes and don face shields while working.

Mrs Chan said: “It’s paramount to look after the safety of our staff and customers so we’ll have temperature checks at the door and sanitiser stands throughout the restaurant.

“It will be different to what people are used to but they’ll still get the experience they have missed. We’re excited.”

It’s paramount to look after the safety of our staff and customers.
