Albion loan star turns out for Gers
JAMIE BACK IN ACTION NORTH OF THE BORDER
JAMIE Murphy is hungry for more after returning to action for Rangers on Saturday following his loan spell with Burton Albion.
The forward scored seven goals in 10 games for the Brewers before returning north of the border.
He joined Albion in January as he looked to get his career back on track after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
Now he is eager to establish himself in the Rangers first team and played a part in a 2-1 friendly win against Hamilton Academical at Auchenhowie.
“It was good to get back out and play some football,” Murphy told Rangers TV.
“The world has had a tough time of it being in lockdown, so it was good to get back out and get playing.
“It was enjoyable (being in a Rangers shirt again). You always want to be here and you always want to play here, so to get back out there and start with a win was all good.
“You always look at yourself first before everything but we won the game and, even though it’s a pre-season friendly, you want to go out and win and try to contribute.”
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is not short of options on the left wing and Murphy will face some serious competition for first-team games this season, with the likes of Ryan Kent ahead of him.
LEAGUE One side Portsmouth are reported to be keen on doing a deal for Tranmere Rovers centre-back Manny Monthe.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian has been with Rovers since February 2018, having initially joined the club on loan.
He has made 93 appearances and was part of Micky Mellon’s group of players that won promotion at Wembley last season.
