Jackett calls for a 90-minute display
PORTSMOUTH manager Kenny Jackett believes his team are close to where they need to be but that they have yet to put together a good performance over 90 minutes.
“We have drawn two games and lost one 2-1, so we are not far away from a successful side,” he said.
“Also, we have had spells in each game where we have been strong but haven’t scored.
“We don’t think we have put together a top 90-minute performance yet either and that is what we are looking to do. If we can get from start to finish a very convincing performance, both in and out of possession, that is our aim.
“We have been pretty good defensively. Jack Whatmough and Sean Raggett have a pretty good partnership and we have only given away two goals in the three games we have played. That is OK.
“Going forward, we have had spells in each game where we have been on top but we haven’t been able to score in those spells. If we are looking at facts, we have only scored one goal in three games and that needs to up.”
Asked about Burton, Jackett responded with the standard manager’s mantra about his own side’s efforts being the most important.
“Burton have a lot of experienced players and a lot of very good players as well,” he said.
“We will obviously analyse their strengths and weaknesses but, once we have done that, and I ask that we respect every opposition, look hard at our own game, seeing if we can put together a 90-minute performance, which is what we want.”
