A38 bridge to close for vital roadworks
PROGRAMME OF WORKS INCLUDES RESURFACING AND DRAINAGE SCHEMES
A BUSY bridge near Burton is set to be closed entirely all weekend as vital work is carried out.
The B5016 above Barton Turns was due to close last weekend while structural repairs were completed.
However, due to the wet weather, this had to be cancelled and Highways England, which is responsible for the work, has now said the project will be carried out this weekend.
The bridge will be closed from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.
At the moment the bridge is controlled by temporary traffic lights while work takes place. After the weekend closure it will reopen entirely to two-way traffic with a 30mph speed limit in place.
While the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted to the next junction on the A38, where drivers will be able to continue on their journeys.
Further roadworks on the dual carriageway, from Monday, October 12, to Friday, October 16, the A38/A50 Toyota island exit slip road will be closed on the northbound lane.
This will be from 8pm to 6am for work to be carried out by South Staffs Water. Restrictions are currently in place on the A38 around Barton under Needwood and will remain for the duration of wider works on the A38.
These include narrow lanes on the southbound carriageway through Barton Turn and 50mph speed limits enforced by speed cameras.
The project on the A38 around Burton will last the rest of the year and is being carried out by Government roads department Highways England. It is being carried out as part of a year-long programme of resurfacing, drainage upgrades and bridge repairs between the A50 and the A5, south of Lichfield on the A38.
The roadworks may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, Highways England has said.
