Kaliyah breaks long jump club record and adds 100m PB
KALIYAH Morant-hudson has broken a long-standing Burton Athletic Club under-17 record in the long jump, with a leap of 4.95m into a headwind at an open event in Nuneaton.
Morant-hudson won her pool with that jump. She has previously jumped further but with a tailwind that was too strong for the mark to count.
The talented teenager also finished second in her heat in the 100m in a new personal best of 13.87 seconds, a race in which club-mate Millie Talbot finished third in 14.66.
In all, 20 Burton athletes were taking part in a busy day of action, with the sprinters leading off the events.
Under-15 Elizabeth Washbourne ran a PB of 14.24 to come third in her race in only her second outing.
Under-13 Lilly Hill ran the same time to finish second in her heat. It was also a PB for her in her second run in Burton colours.
Katie Brant, at under-15, made it four Burton PBS from five races when she finished second in her race in 13.54. making it four 100m PBS from Burton sprinters in five races into a cool headwind.
Freddie Kugelmann, Katie Scott, Tai Traves Stevens, also Tom took Astbury part in and the short Aron sprints.
Talbot was back in action in the under-17 high jump, clearing 1.35m off the back of only two training sessions since returning from lockdown.
Kugelmann took on the 300m and was second in a tough heat in 41.38.
Running in the last sprint, Freya Bruno posted a win for Burton in the 200m in 28.21.
In the field, Maddy Hughes threw 42.76m in the under-17 hammer, her second-best distance of the season.
Nicola Long, also in the hammer, added record three with a metres throw of to 29.05m. her W45 club
Brian Bowley was fifth in the M70 discus with 23.14m and added a throw of 7.80m in the shot.
A the other end of the age scale, under-13 George Kugelmann threw
7.93m.
The 800 metres saw all three Burton competitors come away with new bests in their races.
Under-15 Cara Mccarney started with a 34-second 200 metres as she swept into a lead she maintained with a clear win in 2.40.11.
Sister Caitlin, at under-13, was fifth in 2.38.83, while under-15 Saffron Bowley ran tactically well, working her way through the field to finish third in 2.32.71. The 1500 metres saw under-15 Maise Trueman not enjoying the cold, windy conditions with seventh place in 5.10.73. The Mccarney sisters had been in action the previous day in Manches-ter.
Caitlin had been targeting Trueman’s under-13 club record at 1200m but she missed it by little more than a second in 4.15.49. Cara Mccarney ran a PB of 5.32.93 in the under-15 1500 metres.
