Ennis is added to the Albion attacking options

-

BURTON Albion beat the transfer deadline to sign forward Niall Ennis on a season-long loan from Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 21-year-old arrived too late to be eligible for today’s League One game away to Bristol Rovers but will add to the Brewers’ attacking options.

Ennis has represented England at Under-17, 18 and 19 level and a loan spell with Doncaster Rovers last season saw him score six times in 29 games, four of those coming in the final nine games.

“We were looking for another attacking option to bolster what we’ve got,” said manager Jake Buxton.

“He has had a successful loan spell at Doncaster last season. He’s quick and good at getting in behind the defence.

“We didn’t think it would be achievable to get him. Darren Moore spoke well of him that he’s a good lad, works his socks off and can finish. I spoke with Scott Sellars, the Wolves Academy manager, and he spoke really highly of him as well.

“He won’t be available to be selected for Bristol Rovers but he’ll come and train on Monday ahead of Rochdale on Tuesday night.”

“I’m excited and can’t wait to get started,” said Ennis.

“I can come short, run in behind, I’ve got a lot of pace and I’m good with the ball at my feet and can run at players and get past them. The main thing is I want to score goals and win games.

“I spoke to the manager briefly but he said a lot of things I agree with and I got excited. The way he sees me playing, the system – it gave me the confidence that I’m wanted and that’s what a player wants.”
