‘Marvellous’ that A444 lights have finally gone
GARDEN CENTRE BOSS ENDURED A YEAR OF MISERY AS TRAFFIC DELAYS HIT BUSINESS
A GARDEN centre boss has said the news that roadworks which have caused misery for his firm for more than 12 months have finally finished is just “marvellous”.
Temporary traffic lights installed at part of the ongoing Taylor Wimpey development on the A444 at Stanton have been causing misery to motorists and the garden centre alike with huge tailbacks and delays of up to 40 minutes daily.
The two-way lights have been in place will work at the 132-home Kiln Meadows housing development has been taking place.
The lights were finally removed for what is hoped the final time on Saturday, after Taylor Wimpey finished resurfacing the road – to the delight on motorists and businesses.
Nearby Stanton Nurseries saw a drop in custom last year as visitors were avoiding the garden centre because of the constant delays.
Now, owner James Tucker has said the removal of the lights is “marvellous news”.
He said: “It is great that they have gone
“It can put people off venturing into town and they have been avoiding the A444.
“For the last 12 months we have had delays and 2019 was a bit traumatic.
“There was also supposed to be roadworks during our busier months but lockdown happened and it wasn’t so bad.
“We are quite optimistic that more people will be venturing down the A444.
“It is marvellous news.”
It comes as bus firm Midland Classic said last week that the roadworks were “wreaking havoc” on its services with delays in many directions as a result.
Taylor Wimpey has previously apologised for any inconvenience caused.
