Vets hope urgently-needed extension gets permission

-

A VETERINARY surgery says it urgently requires larger premises to cope with its growing customer base.

Swadlincote Veterinary Centre, at The Pipeworks, off Coppice Side, wants to build a two-storey rear and side extension to its current base.

Bosses at the centre have applied to South Derbyshire District Council for permission to carry out the work, which will see another 88 sq m added to the 240 sq m building.

A report submitted with the application said: “There is an urgent requirement for an extension to an existing successful veterinary practice in the area.

“The business is such that it would be impossible to maintain growth as it has absolutely out-grown the existing space.

“The design for this modest extension is based on the exact scale and proportion of the existing earlier industrial building which has been previously modernised and extended.

“It is intended to use matching brickwork as far as it is possibly able as with the roof slating.

“Attendances at the practice are mainly of short duration and so car parking facilities have a rapid turnover.

“The practice has a dedicated 14-car car park. Staff and clients can use the main car park of about 300 spaces at the main retail park.

“While the anticipated growth in the business would bring in more vehicular traffic, the traffic would be spread over the course of the working day hence would not cause any noticeable effect on over-all parking.”

A decision is due to be made in the next few months.
