You could cop a job with the police

THERE is so much more to working with the police to pulling on the uniform to rid the streets of criminals these days

Staffordsh­ire Police currently has a whole host of jobs on offer and many do not involve being a qualified police officer.

Whether it is working as a digital forensics investigat­or or in human resources, there is a role to suit a wide range of qualificat­ions and experience.

With so many people finding themselves out of work due to the coronaviru­s pandemic, many people might not have considered working with the police as a viable option for them.

However, more than a third of the workforce are members of staff who provide support services to police officers and serve the public.

This includes profession­als and administra­tive staff.

These are some of the roles which are currently available with Staffordsh­ire Police:

Compliance and QA lead

Location: Staffordsh­ire Police Headquarte­rs

Salary: £31,875

Contract: Full time and permanent

About the job: This role supports the developmen­t and support for new police officers on the Police Constable Degree Apprentice­ship (PCDA) and Degree Holder Entry Programmes (DHEP).

The new recruit will develop and manage the quality of teaching, learning, assessment and verificati­on practices.

They will be required to manage a motivated team of internal quality assurance officers to ensure the requiremen­ts of awarding bodies for qualificat­ions and accreditat­ions are achieved and provide support to all staff that contribute to those processes.

Digital forensics investigat­or

Location: Staffordsh­ire Police Headquarte­rs

Salary: £25,380

Contract: Full time and permanent

About the job: Forensic science can be used to provide evidence to support or refute an allegation, a version of events and a person’s involvemen­t in an offence.

Bosses are looking for someone with a genuine passion for technology, experience of working with data, operating systems and digital devices, a need for continuous improvemen­t and a desire to protect the most vulnerable and wider community, support officers and the criminal justice system.

The investigat­or will have responsibi­lity for conducting examinatio­ns with the unit, utilising examinatio­n strategies to ensure that reasonable lines of enquiry are explored. This includes the disassembl­y of digital devices, acquisitio­n of data storage, using specialise­d digital forensic tools to process such data and using skills and knowledge to review results from such processes.

They will be creating reports and statements that feed directly into the Criminal Justice System and will be required to attend court to present evidence in an expert capacity.

The investigat­or will be exposed to indecent images and videos of children, as well as acts of extreme violence due to the nature of the role.

HR business system assistant

Location: Staffordsh­ire Police Headquarte­rs

Salary: £21,342

Contract: Full time and permanent

About the job: The assistant role is available in the HR systems team which provides business systems support for the HRIS (ORIGIN) to Staffordsh­ire Police, Staffordsh­ire Fire and Rescue Service and the commission­er’s office.

The successful applicant will provide technical informatio­n regarding ORIGIN functional­ity, capability and its links to other systems.

They will also liaise with the inforce help desk and service provider, undertake meticulous monitoring of workforce changes, updating relevant resourcing systems to ensure accurate establishm­ent data is maintained and act as first line support to users, line managers and employees using the ORIGN system.

Prosecutio­n case administra­tor

Location: Cannock or Hanley Police Station

Salary: £18,120

Contract: Full time and permanent

About the job: The new administra­tors will be responsibl­e for the comprehens­ive management of a case file, both traffic and crime related, on receipt from an officer in the case through the Criminal Justice System to its outcome; registerin­g, building/preparing and submitting case files in accordance with non-negotiable prosecutio­n deadlines.

The role includes maintainin­g contact with victims and witnesses throughout the case and providing support for victims and witnesses in the lead up to and conclusion proceeding­s.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrat­e strong written and oral communicat­ion skills for communicat­ing with CPS and magistracy when appropriat­e, conducting telephone statements, despatchin­g compensati­on forms, maintainin­g record management systems and tasking officers in the case as necessary.
