He’s one of the lucky ones... will you be able to pick up a pumpkin?

FARMS REPORT THEY HAVE SOLD OUT FOR HALLOWEEN

FAMILIES hoping to pick their own pumpkins for Halloween could be left disappoint­ed as farms have reported selling out early.

Demand for the orange fruit has soared as people prepare to turn them into scary faces and stick a candle in them.

Scaddows Farm Shop and Cafe, on the A514 near Ticknall, has had a busy few weeks and has now posted on social media that its pumpkin picking event has ended as they have run out quicker than anticipate­d.

The farm, which reported having a record number of visitors, closed at the weekend after a hectic few days.

A spokesman said: “We’re sorry to say we have come to an early end of our Pumpkin Picking Event this year and are now closed. “This weekend has seen more visitors that we have ever had to our event and as a result we have run out of pumpkins much quicker than anticipate­d.

“We’re sorry for those of you that haven’t made it in time this year and for being a bit hectic.

“We hope you have enjoyed your visits this year and our new Spooky Trail. Have a safe and fun Halloween and look forward to having you all back next summer for the PYO (pick your own) strawberri­es.

“Thanks to all our customers for making these pumpkin events so much fun. Hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have and again apologies for those of you that are disappoint­ed.

Snarestone Pumpkin Farm and Garden King, in Park Road, Newhall, has also reported selling out of pumpkins.

A spokesman said: “Sold out We have now run out of pumpkins unfortunat­ely. There is a national shortage so it has been difficult to get more in.

“We are hoping to get some more in the next few days but it can’t be guaranteed. We will update Facebook if we do.

“Our woodland walk will however remain open until the end of the month. So you are still welcome to come down for a lovely walk in our lit woodland and a free find the animal activity sheet.”

Cattows Farm in Colaville has also sold out of orange pumpkins in the pick your own fields but does have “more interestin­g and unusual pumpkins, squashes and gourds available”.

The National Forest Adventure Farm, in Tatenhill, does have pumpkins left but sadly all of its pre-booked tickets have now sold out.

However, there is some good news as Heaths Farm Shop and Nursery, in Melbourne, does still have a “good selection” of pumpkins to chose from and visitors are advised not to forget their wellies.
