More deaths recorded from coronaviru­s

ANOTHER 73 people in East Staffordsh­ire have been diagnosed with coronaviru­s as the borough prepares to go into tougher Tier 2 restrictio­ns.

There was also a rise in cases South Derbyshire, where another 60 people were diagnosed with the virus.

A total of 1,606 people in East Staffordsh­ire have had confirmed cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The infection rate since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,341.1 per every 100,000 people in the borough.

There have been two more deaths in the borough over 24 hours so the total stands at 141, or a rate of 117.7 in every 100,000 residents.

Across Staffordsh­ire, the infection rate since the start of the pandemic is at 1,329.2, with 11,691 cases in total – a rise of 439 in 24 hours.

There have been another three deaths to take the a total to 757 deaths in Staffordsh­ire, meaning the county’s death rate is 86.1 per 100,000 people.

The daily national figure for new cases over 24 hours is 23,065. There have now been 965,340 cases in total across the UK.

There have also been 45,955 deaths in the UK, up 280.

In South Derbyshire, there have been 60 new cases, with the total now standing at 1,391 at an infection rate of 1,296.8.

There have been two new deaths, with the total number now at 86 - a death rate of 80.2.

There have been 11,161 cases confirmed in Derbyshire - a rise of 402 - and the infection rate since the start of the pandemic is now 1,390.4.

The number of deaths in Derbyshire stands at 633, a rise of four, equating to 78.9 per every 100,000 people in the county.

There have been 964 cases in North West Leicesters­hire, meaning the infection rate is 930.4. A total of 33 of those were recorded in the 24 hours to yesterday.

There were no new deaths during the 24-hour period.

The Leicesters­hire-wide figures show 10,375 cases at an infection rate of 1,469.2, which is a rise of 343 overnight.

Three people have died in the county in the 24 hours to yesterday, meaning the total is now 429 deaths at a death rate of 60.8
