Jake’s joy as Lawless makes big impression

-

MIDFIELDER Steven Lawless has been praised for the way he has adapted to playing for Burton Albion since his summer move from Scotland.

He joined from Livingston in July, signing a one-year deal, and Brewers manager Jake Buxton was delighted with his performances in the 1-1 draw against AFC Wimbledon last Saturday and the midweek 2-2 away draw against Peterborough United.

“The performances of certain players who’ve come into the team (have been impressive),” said Buxton.

“Stevie Lawless has come down from Scotland and found his feet, his performances have been very good in the last two games.

“You’re asking them to go twice in quick succession and they did that.

“Niall Ennis also got his first start and looked a threat. We had to protect him and take him off because of the hamstring injury he’s had over the summer.

“Stephen Quinn was outstanding again in the middle of the park (against Peterborough), while Sam Hughes and John-joe O’toole are building a relationship in defence and performing to a high standard.”

Buxton expects forward Ennis, a loan signing from Wolves, to grow into an important player for the Brewers .

“I spoke to Darren Moore about Niall at Doncaster Rovers last season and the report was that he would work his socks off,” Buxton

said. “We could see from the games we had watched that he was a talent.

“Sometimes with younger players you question their character but he is a top-class character as well and you can see he is going to cause defenders quite a few problems.”
