A DERBYSHIRE tattooist famous for inking A-list stars man will be working with Being Human actor Michael Socha to produce a TV documentary highlighting the struggles of those living in poverty.

Kevin Paul, who lives in Melbourne, is known for inking a host of celebrities including for tattooing the likes of Rihanna, James Arthur, Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran.

He is now working with Derbyborn actor Michael Socha, known for his roles in the films This Is England and Summer, and the television series This Is England ‘86, ‘88, ‘90, Being Human, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Our World War.

The pair will self-fund the project and will use their personal experiences to write the documentary, and have named their venture Smack Duck productions.

Kevin wants to handle “difficult” subjects such as living in poverty, council living, drugs use and alcohol and hopes to identify some hidden talent in the form of actors in the area.

The TV series will be set in Derby and surrounding areas, including Swadlincote.

The 42-year-old, said: “People tend to stay away from real-life subjects such as poverty and addiction, but we want to highlight these subjects and make people realise they are a huge part of the society we live in.

“I myself had problems with drugs in the past but thankfully saw the light and used my positive and strong mindset to g get me out of that dark hole. Living in deprived areas can sometimes mean an you are at a dis- advantage, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have any talent and can’t succeed.

“Me and Michael went t out to Swadlincote ote one day and spoke ke to various people about what we want to do and they were very impressed. We spoke to a lot of young peop people who were very hap happy with what we ai aim to bring and I c can see it becoming a success.

“We all need to c contribute to our s society and if we are in a position to help, we should do so.” Soc Socha, 32, said: “I have a always wanted to come back to my hometown and support those —living close to me.

“Me and Kevin both will be able to relate to the script as we came from normal families and didn’t have too much growing up.

“I have always wanted to try my hand at writing scripts so this will be a good learning experience for me.

“We want it to be a platform for the next generation, there is not much around here for kids wanting to pursue a career in drama and hopefully unearth some talent in the area.”

We all need to contribute to our society and if we are in a position to help, we should do so.
