Critchley: We’ve been better than that and lost

-

BLACKPOOL manager Neil Critchley felt his side have played better and lost than in the 2-1 win against Burton Albion.

“Particularly with the ball in possession, I thought we were wasteful,” said Critchley.

“But the spirit and the effort of the players is first class and they deserve that feeling in the dressing room after the game because of what they put into other games.”

It was the Seasiders’ first away win in 13 months and striker Jerry Yates’ two goals were his first for the club in his 12th match following a summer move to Bloomfield Road.

“I’m absolutely delighted for Jerry because he’s such an infectious personality,” said Critchley.

“He brings great energy to the team and the training ground every day.

“I love him, the staff love him and the players love him and I think you could see that when he scored, everyone was made up for him.

“It was a big moment for him. He will grow in confidence off the back of that and he was unfortunate with the one that came off the post in the first half.

“It would have put us 2-0 up and he would have walked away with the match ball. I’m delighted for him to get off the mark.”

Critchley was less pleased with Burton’s goal, an own goal by Dan Gretarsson as he diverted a low cross from Charles Vernam.

He was critical of referee Declan Bourne, who failed to give Blackpool a corner before the move which led to the goal.

“I was very frustrated with that because decisions and moments like that have gone against us this season and you can’t help but feel hard done by,” he said.
