Biggest ever daily rise in Covid
EAST STAFFORDSHIRE SETS NEW RECORD FOR RISE IN CASES
EAST Staffordshire has suffered the biggest daily jump in Covid-19 cases on record, according to new Public Health England figures.
The latest daily stats, released on Monday night, show 95 people had tested positive in the borough in the preceding 24 hours.
That is compared to just 45 new cases on October 30 – the day before the area was forced into Tier 2 lockdown because of an alarming rise in cases.
The previous 24-hour record of 91 cases was recorded on Monday, November 2.
Nationally, there were tens of thousands of cases recorded in Monday’s figures.
The national figure rose by 21,350, meaning there had been 1,213,363 cases across the UK.
There have also been 49,063 deaths, up 194 since the previous day, according to the Government’s figures.
It comes on the day Staffordshire
County Council revealed the weekly infection rate across the county was nearly 60 per cent above the England-wide average.

East Staffordshire
A total of 2,284 people in East Staffordshire have had confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic – a rise of 95.
The infection rate since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,907.2 per 100,000 people in the borough. The population is around 118,000.
There have been two more deaths announced, so the total stands 151, at a rate of 126.1 in every 100,000 residents.
Across Staffordshire, the infection rate since the start of the pandemic is 1,920.5, with 16,892 cases in total – a daily rise of 543.
There have been a total of 812 deaths in Staffordshire – seven since the previous daily figures were released – meaning the county’s death rate is 92.3 per 100,000 people.
South Derbyshire
In South Derbyshire, there have been 69 new cases, with the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 2,124 at an infection rate of 1,980.2.
There has been one death in the latest 24-hour period, with the total number still at 92 – a death rate of 86.7.
There have been 15,568 cases confirmed in Derbyshire – a rise of 1,246
– and the infection rate since the start of the pandemic is now 1,939.5.
The number of deaths in Derbyshire stands at 697, a rise of three since, equating to 86.8 per 100,000 people in the county.
North West Leicestershire
There have been 1,411 cases in North West Leicestershire – 59 of which are new – meaning the infection rate is 1,361.8.
The death rate is 63.7, with 66 people having died within 28 days of testing positive, but the latest number show no new fatalities.
The Leicestershire-wide figures show 13,544 cases – a rise of 420 at an infection rate of 1,918.
Two people have died in the county since the previous day’s figures, meaning the total is now 454 deaths at a death rate of 64.3.
Elsewhere in Staffordshire
Cannock Chase has recorded 1,764 cases throughout the pandemic. That is a daily increase of 47 cases and means the district has an infection rate of 1,750.7 per 100,000 people.
South Staffordshire has recorded 2,418 cases throughout the pandemic, at a rate of 2,150.6. There have been 75 new cases.
Stafford has recorded 2,607 cases throughout the pandemic. That represents a daily increase of 83 cases and means the infection rate is 1,899.
Staffordshire Moorlands has recorded 1,745 cases throughout the pandemic, at a rate of 1,772.7 per 100,000 of the population. There has been an increase of 54 cases.
