Evidence of cannabis factory found after fire in house roof
THE remains of a cannabis factory were found at a home which was devastated by a fire.
Detectives believe the fire was caused by an illegal electrical installation after they found evidence of a cannabis factory inside.
As repoted in the Burton Mail on Saturday, the fire happened at an address in Ridgway Road, Ashby, at around 1.30pm on Thursday, November 5. Detectives investigating the fire are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Officers from Leicestershire Police attended with firefighters from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and it was established the fire had been caused by an illegal electrical installation, said a police spokesman.
Evidence relating to the cultivation of cannabis was found inside, he said. The property’s roof was destroyed. The fire also spread to a neighbouring property, causing significant damage.
It is understood no one was injured.
Nearby residents told how they watched the flames spread from the roof of one of the houses to the other.
Detective Constable Natasha Perkins, from Coalville CID, said: “From enquiries carried out to date,
I have established that three men were seen going into the property a short time before the fire broke out.
“I would like to speak to anyone who lives in Ridgway Road or the surrounding area. Any information you are able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, could help my investigation.
“I am keen to speak to anyone in the area either with CCTV installed at their address or who was driving in the area of Ridgway Road and has a dashcam installed in their vehicle.”
