Residents speak of fear and shock following daytime brawl

-

RESIDENTS in a Burton street say they have been left “scared” and “in shock” after witnessing a brutal mass brawl outside their homes.

Officers were called to in Uxbridge Street at around 1.45pm on Saturday, where a man had sustained a knife wound to the neck.

The Burton Mail went out to the street yesterday to speak to people living there in the wake of the fight.

One resident, who lives in the street and wishes to remain anonymous, said: “It was very scary.

“The road was full of people and even when the emergency services came it was like a huge crime scene and there were police cars and a helicopter hovering in the sky.

“You get small altercations now and then in the area, but something like this has not happened before and it’s a very scary and surreal experience.

“Living in the street I am very worried as you don’t know what will happen next.”

A business owner in the street said: “I didn’t see what happened because I open my shop after 3pm, but even when I arrived there were a lot of people in the street and you could tell something had happened.

“The street is normally very lively, with people getting along with one another.

“It’s shocking to hear what has happened.

“I hope those who were injured are okay and people can forget what has happened between the groups and move on.”

Another man, who lives in All Saints Road and also wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I heard the police sirens and saw the pictures on social media and it was very sad to see what had happened.

“With everything going on in world we don’t need anymore issues and this has turned the area into a (crime) hot spot, which is not good, especially for those living close by.

“I hope we don’t have anymore trouble as people in the area are scared and no one knows what’s going to happen next.”

The knife wound victim was taken by ambulance to Derby Royal Infirmary for treatment.
