COFFEE lovers in Burton can rejoice as the opening date of a brand new Starbucks drive-thru has been revealed.

The brand new drive-thu has been built in Wellington Road, near The Range and B&Q, and the wait for it to open is nearly over. Although the country is still in lockdown, Starbucks bosses have revealed it will open for drive-thu and takeaway only from next weekend.

This will be followed closely by delivery through Uber and Eat In as soon as lockdown restrictions are eased, which is currently due to happen on December 2. The store in Burton will officially open on November 27, from 6am, with a soft launch at 10am on November 26.

Franchise owner Bobby Sidhu said it had been originally planned to open in July but the opening was delayed by the first lockdown.

He said: “We’ve been busy recruiting and taken on 16 amazing partners (staff) on full- and-part-time contracts, which we’re really pleased about, especially in the current climate, as many had been made redundant from their previous jobs.

“We’re all really excited about the opening, we’ve been trying to open a store in Burton for a few years now and even this one was due to open in July but everything got put on hold when we went into lockdown in March, which just so happened to be the very week we were supposed to start work on site.

“There’s no denying it’s been a really tough year and more difficult opening with the challenges of Covid and lockdown - especially the unpredictability of it all.

“It’s obviously not the ideal time to be opening a new store, but it’s hard to put everything on hold waiting for a vaccine and we have to do our best and carry on in a safe and considerate manner. There’s definitely so much more to think about with Covid, not least ensuring the safety and well-being of our teams and customers, but we’ve had a lot of support from our other stores about trading safely during Covid, so we’re looking forward to being able to open with our “festive favourites” drinks and food, which are always popular and help get you in the Christmas mood.”

The branch has been built in an empty unit which once housed a former HSS Hire store, a tool and equipment and hire firm.

Plans were given the thumbs-up by East Staffordshire Borough Council in November 2019.
