Rate of new infections is still going up

- By RICHARD CASTLE richard.castle@reachplc.com @richardcastle85

THE rate of new Covid-19 infections has continued to rise in many parts of East Staffordshire – just as the Government announces whether the borough will slide into Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will reveal which areas will be in which tier of restrictions today.

The return to the three-tiered approach will happen on Wednesday, December 2. And the signs do not look good for many neighbourhoods in East Staffordshire, according to the latest seven-day rolling Covid data.

Covering the five days to November 19, it shows Stretton now has the worst infection rate.

In South Derbyshire, Hatton and Burnaston has a particularly high rate, while Ashby South has the highest rate in North West Leicestershire

Many of the Government-defined areas have seen noteworthy rises in new cases, but a significant number have also seen big drops.

The numbers we have listed come via the Government’s rolling seven-day Covid-19 data map.

They detail how many new cases there are in each neighbourhood and to what extent infections are rising or falling.

The figures, which, at the time of publication, were the latest available, are accurate as of November 24.

They are arranged in the following format - place: number of new cases in the week up to November 8; rise or fall in cases compared to the previous seven-day period (corresponding percentage); infection rate.

We have arranged each area in order of infection rate – the number of infections per 100,000 residents.
