Smart save early on to deny Assombalonga and stops from Tavernier and Spence in the second half saved Derby from a much heavier beating.

Made a few good runs into the final third with no end product and was at fault defensively on Boro’s second goal.

ANDRE WISDOM 5

Looked to drive forward with the ball when he could but he and Clarke were second-best to Assombalonga on the night.

MATT CLARKE 5

Shaky moments defensively when he is normally solid but unlucky to turn the ball into his own net for Boro’s second goal.

LEE BUCHANAN 5

Lost his man at the back post on Boro’s goal in the first half.

WAYNE ROONEY 5

Played in a number of different positions throughout the 90 minutes without really affecting the game. Needs to settle in one position.

MAX BIRD 5

Just wide with a good strike in the first half. Tried to pull the strings but faded against tough opponents.

JASON KNIGHT 5

Worked hard but found it tough against a physically strong Boro side.

TOM LAWRENCE 4

Poor decision by him when he lost the ball in his own half in the build up to Assombalonga’s goal. Derby need more from him.

MARTYN WAGHORN 4

Quiet first half and barely involved, though he had precious little service. Replaced at half-time.

KAMIL JOZWIAK 4

Booked early on. Needs to make better decisions on the ball – when to run with it, when to move it on.

Almost equalised with his first touch after coming on when he sent a low shot fizzing wide. Should have hit the target but he immediately offered movement and menace.
