TWO people have been seriously injured after an accident which left a car in the front garden of a house in South Derbyshire.

The early morning crash happened on the A444 Cadley Hill Road in Castle Gresley, near Swadlincote, yesterday.

Derbyshire police said they received a call just after 2.30am and police, fire and ambulance crews all attended the scene.

One vehicle was involved, a black Volkswagen Golf, which had crashed through a fence and ended up in the garden of a nearby house.

Three people were taken to hospital, including a man and a woman who suffered serious injuries, a police spokesman said.

The road was closed all morning while emergency services attended the scene and an investigation into the cause of the incident was carried out. It caused major traffic issues, with tailbacks all the way back into Gresley on the busy route between Burton and Swadlincote.

The road did not reopen until after 11am. The Golf was badly damaged in the accident, with the front destroyed and the bonnet smashed back over the front windscreen.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident, or with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area shortly

before or after the incident.”

One nearby neighbour said yesterday: “I’ve been here for five and a half years and this road is nothing but trouble.

“There’s always crashes on this road and the roundabout is horrific. I need luck just to get out of my driveway.

“The house shakes with the lorries. It’s the last two years with all the new building that it’s been really bad. The traffic has trebled.

“It is a 40mph road and it should be 30.”

A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from police at 2.34am on November 26 to Cadley Hill Road in Swadlincote. “They reported that there had been a road traffic collision. We sent a paramedic in a fast response car and four double-crewed ambulances.

“Three patients were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre via double-crewed ambulances.” The police spokesman added: “If you have any information which you think could help with our inquiries please contact us using one of the following methods.”

People can call the non-emergency 101 number or contact the force via its social media chanels or at www.derbyshire.police.uk/contact-us. Anyone with information is asked to quote reference number 60-261120, and the name of the officer in the case, DC Richard Howiss, in any correspondence.
