BANK bosses have revealed when its Swadlincote branch will close its doors for the final time.
Barclays will close the branch in Midland Road on Friday, January 29, it has been revealed.
It is one of 63 branches that the banking giant will close in 2021, saying it is due to customers choosing to bank in other ways and not needing to physically go into a high street branch.
The nearest branch for customers who use the Swadlincote one will be in High Street, Burton.
In a statement released by Barclays, it gives one of the reasons for closing the South Derbyshire branch is that only 140 customers use this branch exclusively for their banking.
The other main reasons that it is closing are the number of counter transactions has gone down in the previous 24 months, and additionally 88 per cent of the branch customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. Customers using other ways to do their banking has increased by 12 per cent since 2015 and in the past 12 months, 37 per cent of this branch’s customers have been using nearby branches, bosses added.
The report states: “Before we make the decision to close any branch, we think carefully about how it has been used so far. “We consider how many customers have been visiting, what kind of transactions they’ve been making, and all the other ways they’ve been choosing to bank with us. We also take into consideration the availability of other branches in the wider community. “We want to make staying in control of your everyday banking as easy and convenient as possible.
“Over the years, we’ve introduced many ways you can bank without having to come into a branch.”
