A BURTON café is setting up a takeaway delivery app just for people in the town to order from local cafés and restaurants.

Callum Haynes, 23, took over Cafe Malt, in Wetmore Road, in August 2020 and says he came up with the idea as a way to help his and other restaurants, cafés and even pubs who deliver in and around the Burton area.

With the help of Local Eats, a company that makes a Just Eatstyle App, for residents and businesses in a certain area, Callum hopes to launch Burton Eats by the end of the month.

Callum, who lives in Horninglow, said: “Initially I wanted to make my own app, but the I saw what Local Eats has done in certain area of the country and I decided to get in touch with them.

“As a business owner myself, I know the cost implications you have to bear by using third party apps so I want to offer those who have businesses in Burton a similar service, but at a fraction of the cost.

“Even though my business is designed as a eat-in café, we had to transform the way we operate and I began to see how important delivery apps were for me as it allowed me to reach a wide network of customers.

“Due to the pandemic it has been tough for business owners and I want to offer them a way where they can make money and still be able to provide a good service to their customers.

“With people spending more time at home, I feel the app can be a very popular addition, especially with people working from home and wanting a quick meal for lunch or even dinner.

“Similar to Just Eat, due to the pandemic the method of delivery will be contact-free so it will be a safe way to get your food delivered.

“The aim is to get customers to support local businesses and, of course, make the most of the incentives and special offers.

“Alternatively it will work out cheaper for customers as well, with regular promotions on certain places and incentives like discount codes I feel it will work well in Burton.

“For me now it is important to get in touch with the businesses in the area and get them onto the Burton Eats platform as soon as possible so when we do launch, customers will be able to access their favourites through the app.”
