-

A BURTON man launched a racially aggravated assault on a parking warden for ticketing a car belonging to someone he knew.

Matab Ali was remanded in custody after failing to turn up for his initial trial date on Monday, January 4, with police having to hunt him down.

North Staffordshire Justice

Centre heard his case on Wednesday, January 6, when Ali, 27, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault by beating in Edward Street, Burton on October 13, 2020.

He also admitted a racially aggravated public order charge of using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence on the same date.

A third charge of failing to appear at court was also admitted by Ali, of Weston Park Avenue, Stretton.

Ali will now appear before Cannock Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 3, when he is due to be sentenced for the offences. He has been granted conditional bail until then.

Covid deaths have happened in the last month.

New data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows how the deaths have been split between each neighbourhood in the borough.

We have compiled the statistics to tell you how many people have succumbed to coronavirus where you live, ranking each neighbourhood from most to fewest deaths. Also included in the data is the number of people who died from Covid last month – totalling 46 across the borough.

Neighbourhoods are defined by the Government, who refer to each as a “middle layer super output area”. Some villages are not referred to by name, but are included as part of larger areas.
