TWENTY jobs are set to be created in Burton as a new shop is set to move into town which intends to be ready for opening once lockdown restrictions allow.

Despite a third lockdown shutting non-essential shops across the UK and many closing for good, one clothing chain is hoping to beat the trend and is to open its eighth store.

Newlife, a registered charity, which uses cash to help provide lifesaving equipment for disabled and terminally ill children, is opening a store set to be in the former Woolworth unit in Coopers Square shopping centre. More recently it was home to a Donna Louise shop and B&M Bargains.

Reece Caizzo Brown, head of communications at Newlife, said: “We can confirm that we are looking to open a store in Burton, giving shoppers there the chance to bag a high street bargain.

“The store, like our seven others, with have a mix of fashions for men, women and children, all at low prices. Our items come from many big-name retailers.

“We have not yet confirmed the location or the date of the opening, which will depend on any lockdown or local restrictions, but we are excited to be moving towards opening another store in our home county of Staffordshire and being able to help more vulnerable children.”

He said the store would create around 20 jobs and applicants were currently being sought for the positions of sales manager and deputy.

While Newlife was unable to confirm which unit it was moving to, Dave Chadfield, centre manager at Coopers Square, said it was the former Woolworth store and, subject to lockdown, the shop plans to open at the end of March.

The charity is also now selling cut-price designer clothes through a new online shopping site.

Newlife now offers a range of clothes, footwear and accessories for sale on online fashion marketplace Depop.

The Depop store includes items from big designer names such as Givenchy, Moschino and Gucci alongside items from more mainstream brands like Fila and Converse, all of which can be found in Newlife’s retail stores when they are open.

Among the high-end items on the Depop platform are a ladies Gucci T-shirt that normally sells for around £340 and is listed for £99. A pair of trainers that normally sell for around £150 are on sale at £57.
