Covid cases continue to rise in area

NEARLY 70 people across East Staffordsh­ire have tested positive for coronaviru­s in 24 hours – a rise in the number of cases since the previous day.

In total there were 69 new recorded cases with two people dying within 28 days of testing positive for the virus, the latest figures have revealed.

Across the county, 430 more people have received a positive test result, a rise from 395 cases in the previous 24 hours.

The latest cases have all been recorded in the 24 hours up to 4pm on Thursday.

Public health bosses in Staffordsh­ire have warned people not to get complacent and to stick to the Covid rules to help stop the spread of the virus.

A total of 7,683 people in East Staffordsh­ire have had confirmed cases of Covid19 since the beginning of the pandemic – a rise of 69 in the 24 hours up to 4pm on Thursday.

There were two more deaths announced, so the total stands at 320 since the pandemic began. The population of the borough is around 119,754.

A total of 430 new cases were recorded across Staffordsh­ire, including those in East Staffordsh­ire, in the latest 24-hour period analysed.

That means 49,765 people have tested positive in the county as a whole since the start of the pandemic.

In total, 22 more people have died across the county, meaning that a total of 1,937 deaths have been recorded in Staffordsh­ire. All cases were within 28 days of people testing positive for the virus.

In South Derbyshire, there have been 48 new cases, with the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 5,842.

There have been three new deaths in South Derbyshire and the total number stands at 187. The district’s population is around 107,261.

In Derbyshire as a whole, there have been 39,809 cases, 340 of which have been registered in the latest daily update. These figures include South Derbyshire. Across the county, where the population is around 802,694, there have been 25 new deaths, meaning 1,425 people have died from the virus since February, last year.

In North West Leicesters­hire, there have now been 4,569 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 44 new cases in the last 24 hours.

A total of 160 people have died within 28 days of testing positive, with one new death recorded in the 24-hour period analysed up to Thursday.

In that time, a total of 35,720 cases have been recorded in Leicesters­hire as a whole, with 280 new cases. The population is around 706,155.

There have been 20 new deaths in the county recorded, meaning 1,022 have now died within 28 days of testing positive.
