The 8 highest ranked take-outs according to reviews website

TRIPADVISOR’S RATING FOR EATERIES ACROSS STAFFS

- By RICHARD CASTLE richard.castle@reachplc.com @richardcastle85

BRITAIN’S cuisine has often been mocked down the years by our Mediterranean neighbours.

Once it appeared we would never veer from our steak, pie and mash which many of us still don’t - to try something a little different.

Slowly but surely, though, the nation has become a hotbed of sophisticated foodies, helped by the influence of foreign flavours that have come with immigration down the years.

And eating out has become a major hobby for millions of Brits, with many becoming amateur food critics on social media and forums.

So when we were told we could no longer eat out at our favourite restaurants due to the Covid crisis, most of us were absolute gutted.

But fear not – there are still dozens of restaurants providing takeaways to help us out of our lockdown blues.

We have visited Tripadvisor to see how those still doing take-out meals are ranked. These are, to the best of our knowledge, the top eight such eateries on the reviews website.

The list was accurate as of 5pm on January 20. These are suggestions not recommendations.

The top eight in full

1 The New Olive Tree, Cheadle (5/5 from 528 reviews)

The New Olive Tree is a top Tapas bar that serves a range of Mediterranean and Spanish treats.

And if you like Sangria, The New Olive Tree may just become your favourite place for a bite and a booze.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are all available.

2 The Red Lion Inn, Cheadle (5/5 from 472 reviews)

Another eatery in Cheadle specialising in catering for special dietary needs is the Red Lion Inn.

Three quarters of top-quality pub grub on the menu can be adapted for those who need tweaks to suit their diets.

The establishment also describes itself as a “specialist” in gluten-free options.

3 Mehkek, Leek (5/5 from 189 reviews)

Staying in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Mehkek offers a tasty fusion of

Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine.

It sources ingredients from the Staffordshire area and its chefs have worked “all over the world”.

Mehkek comes highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of big, bold flavours.

4 The Secret Tea Room, Stone (5/5 from 144 reviews)

Tea rooms have been a lifeline for fans of scones, cakes, sandwiches, brews and all things England during the nation’s lockdowns.

Many have offered awesome afternoon tea deliveries and collections.

And the gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options at The Secret Tea Room make it accessible to all.

5 Ayo Gorkhali, Stafford (5/5 from 267 reviews)

If you have not tried Nepalese cuisine, it is well worth giving it a try.

The delightful flavours and spices certainly get your tastebuds tingling.

And Ayo Gorkhali has been keeping customers happy with takeaways throughout lockdown.

6 Ye Old Dun Cow, Colton, near Rugeley (4.5/5 from 382 reviews)

This top gastro-pub offers all the traditional fare you would expect in an English boozer with a touch of class.

Most of us will have to collect our meals from the pub if we order a takeaway.

But the people of Colton also benefit from a delivery service.

7 Infinitii, Abbots Bromley (5/5 from 222 reviews)

Infinitii is not your average Indian restaurant.

The chefs at the eatery pride themselves on taking a step into the modern age by offering twists on tradition Indian dishes.

It has been open for takeaways throughout the lockdown periods.

8 Veneziaa, Burton (4.5/5 from 543 reviews)

People in the brewing capital of the world love a beer - and a meal out.

So they were gutted when restaurants had to close in line with Covid restrictions.

But takeaways have continued at Veneziaa, which brings high-quality Italian cooking to the town, and it gets the highest Tripadvisor rating in Burton.
