Set sail again for Christmas 2021

A FAMILY show that had been destined to be on stage at Easter last year, but had to be stopped because of lockdown, will go ahead this Christmas instead.

Derby Theatre has announced its production of Treasure Island, a plush, pirate-filled show perfect for the whole family, will be on stage from Friday, November 26, until Friday, December 31.

Treasure Island was due to open as the theatre’s big family production for Easter in March last year, but as the pandemic started to emerge, the show had to be cancelled. However, it is reviving the show to share with audiences over Christmas 2021, and describes it as “a thrilling theatrical adventure for audiences to look forward to”.

Treasure Island will replace Aladdin as Derby Theatre’s main house Christmas show for 2021.

Treasure Island, a spectacular swashbuckling adventure, follows the hugely successful production of The Jungle Book in spring 2019 and, once again, all performances will have fully integrated BSL and captioning, making the production fully accessible for deaf and hearing audiences. The production will also include live audio described performances.

Casting details will be announced soon for the show, directed by Sarah Brigham

Theresa Heskins’ award-wining adaptation of Treasure Island is inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of buried treasure and buccaneers. A spokesman for the theatre said: “Brimming with a bountiful supply of original live music, sumptuous sets and costumes, drama and ahoy me hearties, this will be a thrilling theatrical voyage for all ages to embark on.

Ticket prices remain the same as last year and start from £12.50.

There is a “Schools Earlybird Offer” available now only £9 per ticket, plus one free with every 10 purchased if reserved by Saturday, April 10, and £10.50 per ticket after this time. Schools can reserve now and pay later.
