Cash to develop outdoor learning space for pupils

- By NATALIE MOORE editorial@burtonmail.co.uk

A PRIMARY school in Burton has been given £1,000 to fund an outdoor learning space.

Fountains Primary School has been gifted £1,000 by Persimmon Homes as part of its Community Champions funding scheme.

The school, which caters solely for children with special educational needs, plans to use the money to install permanent shelters to create an outdoor learning space for its students.

Nicola Price, head teacher, said: “We are overjoyed with the money donated to us by Persimmon Homes North Midlands.

“All of our children enjoy being outdoors and providing them with an area where they can do their usual classroom work outdoors will provide a stimulating environment for those children who can often find it difficult being in a classroom and behind a desk all the time.

“These areas will also allow for less time being spent inside a classroom with limited ventilation and hopefully reduce risks of transmissions of coronavirus. Creating outdoor spaces for learning increases the physical activity levels of children which works towards lowering obesity and creating positive longterm outcomes for the children.

“We’ve been trying really hard to fund-raise for this, so this donation is truly welcomed by all at Fountains Primary School.”

Nadine O’dowd, sales director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be donating this money to Fountains Primary School. We hope our donation will bring them one step closer to raising the full amount for their outdoor educational space, which will be beneficial for so many of the pupils.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised.

Persimmon has an upcoming development called Beamhill Heights, off Beamhill Road, Anslow.

It will comprise 234 new homes including a range of two-, threeand four-bedroom designs. Those interested can register via www. persimmonhomes.com or call 01283 890 140.
